AUBURN, ALA.

The joint venture between Capital Growth Medvest and Harbert Realty Services has been selected for its second development in Auburn Research Park. The new medical facility, referred to as Building 6, will be owned and operated by East Alabama Medical Center. The 88,000-square-foot facility will offer the community a freestanding emergency department, ambulatory surgery center — and the potential for future expansion.

East Alabama Medical Center’s 340-bed regional hospital in Opelika and Valley serves a six-county area with approximately 3,300 employees. As Lee County’s second-largest employer, behind Auburn University, the organization is a perfect choice for the latest development in Auburn’s innovative business and research park.

“The Auburn metropolitan area, which includes Lee County and Opelika, is the fastest-growing area in Alabama, outside of Huntsville. It is growing four times faster than any other area in the state. So the growth rate over the next 10 years is to be signifigant — projected to be a population of about 180,000 by the year 2025. The growth in the Auburn Research Park that you see today is part of a larger strategy to meet the needs and contribute to the economy of our vibrant and ever-expanding community,” said Larry Fillmer, executive director of Auburn Research and Technology Foundation.

Goodwyn, Mills & Cawood is the project architect. Rabren General Contractors has been selected to manage the construction and the sitework contractor is Harmon Engineering. The facility is expected to break ground in August and be completed late next year.
